RP I: The Tempest Rises (p1)

Last updated on 2007-12-08

Forceuser had recently moved to the main town at 2. Before he arrived there were no other squads on the island. With a few new-made friends he set up a small squad who would have battles between each other. They would normally have them in the forest between 2 and 7 but sometimes they went round the other side of the mountain and used the caves. There were a lot of rumours about what was in the tunnels at the back of the caves but Forceuser did not know of anyone who had explored them all.

One day while they were in the caves Forceuser and his squad found the remains of a base. Littered around were water balloons and a few water bottles.

The next week, Forceuser tried to find out all he could about who had been fighting there. Eventually he heard that there was another squad on the island, made up of newcomers based in the town at 6. More worryingly, Forceuser found out the name of the squad. The Tempests!

Forceuser set about contacting everyone he knew and informing them about the Tempests and requesting for their help. The holidays would start the next week and he knew he wouldn't be able to deal with them alone.

Spinner was a long-time inhabitant of 7. He had retired there after serving his time as a major in the British Army, and now spent a peaceful existence. Maybe a bit too peaceful...despite the calm, he sensed things could always change, and kept a secret and powerful armoury in his cellar.

Then, one day, he received news of an uprising, a mob who were terrorising inhabitants. It was time to be vigilant, and to re-open his cellar...

Crashdummy was in the remaining section of 6 that wasn't abandoned. The section of 6 was shattered as, in a heavy battle, water balloons had hit the buildings.

As Crashdummy was in his house in 6, he received word that some drifters were coming to 6 from the east by 5. They were unskilled warriors but their numbers, about 5, might be enough to overwhelm a skilled soakerphile.

He had all of his weapons filled already by a well next to his house and was ready for a bombardment at any time. He was always ready, though, as the Tempests had been by his house for quite some time.

While hiking on the mountain, NiborDude saw something weird. He came to a ledge where he could look down on whatever was going on. Flabbergasted, he fell back and muttered to himself, "How the hell did the Tempests get on the island without being seen? Not to mention how they got all the stuff that they have in the camp?"

NiborDude then ran to his house in 6, where he met up with others in his squad saying that Forceuser had found a Tempest base in the caves. But that was strange, because the base NiborDude saw was on the other side of the mountain. Pondering this mystery, he put on his camo jacket and grabbed his water balloon launcher. Then threw it in his ALICE backpack and grabbed his CPS 2000 and CPS 21K. He was ready to go.

While driving on his motor scooter in the town of 2, Racer noticed a younger kid being tortured by older kids with Super Soaker guns. He parked his scooter and tried to make them stop, but no, they just made nasty remarks and told him to leave. So out of his backpack, he pulled out the loaded XP 75, that he was going to show a friend of his, and soaked the older kids.

The younger kid thanked him and ran off, thus the start of his water-gunning scene. Racer ran back to his house on the outskirts of 2 and told his friend.

While NiborDude was hiking on the mountain, Duxburian received word that a band of Tempests were headed towards the town. He grumbled to himself, "Why do they always have to harass us here at 6? There are plenty of other better towns on this island, yet they can't seem to leave us alone here."

Duxburian then rang the neighbourhood bell which was a call to arms for the rest of the team. Several weeks of heavy bombardments and street battles had transformed the team into a prepared and vigilant militia, ready to deal with more trouble at a moment's notice.

Duxburian instructed the team to have their weapons ready and to make repairs on their street barricade. The barricade had saved their neighbourhood from the last Tempest assault, but it had been heavily damaged.

The militia was 11 strong, but, without its other commander and without any intelligence on the approaching Tempest force, Duxburian was taking no chances. The team then went into their warehouse to retrieve their weapons.

The team produced and sold defensive items to other townsfolk to pay for their own supplies They also had the only water balloon launchers in 6, and they had been vital to the defence of the town. Duxburian thought that it never seemed like they could make enough because other water warriors in the town always needed more.

"What 6 needs is unity, the scattered neighbourhoods can't present a formidable defence. We need a leader to unite the neighbourhoods and we also need more water balloon launchers. I can't believe that there's still not enough to defend the town, and it's such a small town too."

Duxburian brought out a pair of his 21Ks and his 2500. As the team continued with their defensive preparations, NiborDude returned from his hike. He then relayed the news of the Tempest base.

NiborDude went to get his supplies and then the team was ready, although Duxburian did not know what their next move should be. They should be ready for an attack against their street. But if the attack were to fail somewhere else, the Tempests might break through. Duxburian was especially worried about the southern part of town, where Crashdummy lived and where there were no barricades.

Crashdummy was well aware that in the southern part of town where he lived there wasn't a single barricade to be seen. Thinking of this, Crashdummy dug a three foot deep trench around his house. After that, he took his soakers and had them pointed out of his windows in his house, Monster on a tripod.

On the roof of his simple house, he had a last resort water balloon launcher with filled balloons around it. His base was heavily fortified but the rest of the southern section in 6 was empty, the remains of the previous battle askew.

Realising Crashdummy was a dead man on the southern side, NiborDude told Duxburian to stay put around the barricades. Nibor then took two men with him south along the main road in town. Nibor was point guard and the two others followed behind, next to each other. Nibor had his 21K in hand. The man on the right of him was carrying Nibor’s CPS 2000 and the man on the left carried a CPS 2500.

They got to about 100 yards of Crashdummy’s house. They waved to him signalling that they were not Tempests. When all of a sudden they heard, THUD, THUD...THUD, THUD, THUD...THUD! Nibor recognised the sound immediately. "GET DOWN!" he bellowed.

Nibor and his two counter parts dropped down and rolled to the side of the road. They covered their heads as 6 water balloons hit the ground around them. Afterwards, they got up and began running towards Crashdummy's house. Nibor yelled, "Return the fire Crashdummy! Shoot your water balloon launcher! Give us covering fire!"

Crashdummy returned fire at the forest area from which the shelling came. Nibor and company were at the ditch he had dug around his house when another round of shots came from the forest. They took cover in the trench.

SPLAT, SPLAT...SPLAT, SPLAT...SPLAT! One water balloon was missing. Getting up, the company moved towards the door when the last shot rang. It hit the front door of Crashdummy's house, knocking down the door. Nibor hustled in his men and then placed the door up and moved a couch in front of it to hold it up. A shot rang from the roof where Crashdummy sent off another water balloon. Nibor and company were safe for now.

While NiborDude and 2 others departed for the south side of town, Duxburian and the remaining men continued to fix the barricades. There were 2, one at each end of the street.

As time wore on, sounds of battle could be heard in the south; Duxburian knew that the Tempests had arrived there. About to organise reinforcements, something suddenly flew over Duxburian and smashed into the warehouse wall with a loud THUD.

Duxburian ducked and yelled, "Get to the barricade nearest to the forest!" The team rushed up to it and picked up the water balloon launchers. THUD, THUD, THUD! Several launchers were opening up in the forest. WHOOSH, WHOOSH! Shots barely missed the top of the barricade and splattered against other buildings. Duxburian then yelled, "Return fire!"

Eight water balloon launchers opened up, including his own, and sent their shots into the forest. The team ducked again as enemy fire came over the barricade. Duxburian heard a loud crash as several balloons made contact with part of the wall and tore off pieces.

Duxburian thought between rounds that this was not the Tempest group that had been reported, this was another one. If the Tempests came from 5, which was roughly south of here, then why were they bothering attacking the barricade here when the south was wide open? It made no sense...unless they didn't know that the south was open and therefore they must have come from a different location. Duxburian glanced up at the caves in the mountain, which were barely visible. They may have come from there, he would have to find out later.

"Return fire!" The team fired another round of water balloons. The forest became quiet; there was no return fire from the enemy. Duxburian immediately ran into the warehouse and up to the roof, from where he could see the whole town.

There he discovered that the Tempests had quit and were progressing toward the south. He could now see that there were about ten of them and they had ditched the water balloon launchers. "They must have run out of ammo." he thought. The Tempest who appeared to be the leader had a CPS 2000; the rest were grunts with 2100s.

Duxburian ran back to the group and gave orders to gather supplies and weapons, "The Tempests are moving south; we are going to meet them there and try to help NiborDude." Duxburian grabbed his weapons and the team moved out.

NiborDude whipped out his water balloon launcher and told his two counter parts to take out theirs. What transpired was a continuous firing back and forth at each other.

Crashdummy was able to hit one of the Tempests in the shoulder. Besides that, the fighting was a waste of water balloons. But then the water balloon launcher offensive on the roof was being driven back and they had to retreat off the roof down into Crashdummy's house.

They then took last shots out of windows and prepared their guns. In the back of all their minds they knew they were dead. Even though there were six people with water balloon launchers, they knew there must be more Tempests out in the woods.

Soon after the last shots by the Tempests, a line of fifteen men came out of the forest with guns drawn. Most of the men had 2100s, accept for two men who had CPS 2000s. Nibor figured that they were the commanders and told everyone in the house that they were the most important out of the whole unit coming at them.

The fifteen men now spread in a semi-circle towards the house. They were cautious. Then one of the men with a CPS 2000 yelled, "CHARGE!" They began running at the house. Everyone in the house were dead men.

Then water balloon launcher shots rang out. Tons and tons of them. Nibor counted at least twenty water balloon launcher shots from the north side of town. It was Dux!

The Tempests were surprised. Frozen in their tracks as water balloons bombarded them. Nibor took this time to jump out a window and shot one of the commanders. Crashdummy was thinking the same and got the other one.

Dux yelled, "CHARGE!" and the entire militia ran the Tempests out of the town into the woods. But now the militia was low on ammo and needed to get back to its warehouse. Everyone then retreated back to the north side of town. Crashdummy's house was destroyed and was little use anymore so he came along with the militia. Everyone refilled and pressurised the water balloon launchers and water guns. The militia needed men badly and hoped some backup would arrive soon.

Forceuser had received word from a friend who lived at 6 that the Tempests were attacking. He decided that now would be the time to gather his squad. Within twenty minutes they were all at his house and ready for battle. Piranha had also brought along his new water balloon launcher. The fastest way to 6 was by boat and Forceuser's dad had one that he let them use. They headed off for the marina at 5.

When they got there, they boarded the boat. "Now would probably be a good time to put our new weapon to use," Forceuser told his team. He was referring to the Behemoth, a massive air pressure water balloon launcher mounted on the boat (although it could be removed it required three men to carry it!). To allow it to take maximum pressure, the pressure chamber consisted of several old oxygen tanks. It was pressurised by a pump attached to an outboard. On a single balloon (which had to be double thickness due to the forces exerted on it!) it could fire up to half a mile. Even loaded up with ten balloons (the maximum) it still had good range.

They headed off with Forceuser at the helm to the port at 5. It was a fast boat so it did not take long. Within a short time they were there. Before disembarking Forceuser decided to contact the militia at 6. He pulled out his radio and hoped they were listening.

At the warehouse at 6, where the militia was based, one of the troops was searching radio frequencies. Suddenly he exclaimed. "Sir, someone is calling for us on the radio." NiborDude turned to him, "Who is it?" "Someone called Forceuser, sir." "I've heard of him, he runs a small squad on the other side of the mountain. Pass it over." Nibor took the radio and pressed the talk button.

"Hello? Hello? Forceuser? Do you read?" said Nibor on the radio, he heard something on the radio but couldn't understand it due to static. He tried to talk to Forceuser again. Then he got a response, "It's Forceuser, I am heading to the port in the town of 5." "Yes, we copy," said Nibor over the radio, then they lost him.

Forceuser turned to his squad, "Dang, we lost them! OK, Sophie and Stingray stay with the boat, Piranha grab your water balloon launcher and come with me. We're going to find them."

Forceuser left his 2000 and grabbed his colossused 4100; he wanted to travel light. Piranha and him set off at a run for 6.

Ed dragged his luggage through the check-in counter at the airport. The long flight had given him a headache.

(flashback)

The Tempest merely smirked at a furious Ed. "Fool. While you and your allies were chasing me, my second-in-command and my most elite troops have escaped. Soon, he will take over as the new Tempest, and he will lead my team to rule all Soakerdom!"

(end flashback)

"What did he mean by that?" Ed kept asking that question to himself, but the answer never came.

"Ed!"

Once again, his memories crashed to a stop. Nat was running towards him.

Ed grinned. "What took that plane so long?" he asked Nat.

"So sue me. The weather was terrible, according to that control tower."

"Details. Boring. C'mon, let's see if we can find the rest of the guys." The duo walked out of the terminal towards one of the cargo planes.

One of the baggage handlers was pushing out Ed's bike from the plane. "Yo, nice ride, bro!" he said to Ed when he saw the duo.

"Yeah, thanks," he replied as he clipped on the luggage.

Ed slung himself over his beloved bike, and the 4-stroke engine growled to life. The duo then rode off towards the main town.

There was a sort of uneasy atmosphere in the air, Spinner felt. It was hot and sticky, and there was a malevolent feel about the weather. It had been very quiet, otherwise. He had brought up his old 1700 and his PowerPak in case of an emergency. He realised, however, the difficulties of defending his residence from attackers.

He walked down his drive to the gate. He glanced up at the sun, set down his bottle of water, and got to work with his plan.

Forceuser and Piranha approached 6 from the south and came to the abandoned area of town. They had to move cautiously now, as they knew Tempests might in the area. They slowly made their way through the buildings keeping an eye out for any movement.

Suddenly Forceuser heard the sound of feet. He pulled Piranha into the protection of a nearby building. Glancing round the corner, he saw a column of Tempest troops heading west. "West?" Force thought to himself, "Why are they heading that way?"

They waited for the troops to pass and then carried on. Soon they were outside the warehouse.

The guard the militia had posted outside saw Forceuser and Piranha round the corner. He grabbed his water balloon launcher and was about to shoot them in the mistaken belief they were Tempest.

"Don't shoot!" Forceuser called out. Piranha and him held their guns above their heads. The guard hesitated. Hearing the commotion NiborDude ran over to the door. "Put that weapon down!" he shouted at the guard, "Do they look like Tempests to you? That's Forceuser." "Sorry, sir."

Force and Piranha ran over to Nibor. "Well what's been happening and what are we going to do?" Force asked.

Nibor told Forceuser the events that had happened during the day. He also told Forceuser about the second base that was on the other side of the mountain.

After discussing about what to do, it was agreed upon that no one was to start any conflicts yet. The small army that was massing in the town of 6 was still too small to take on the Tempests. They would hold the town until enough re-enforcements had arrived to attack one of the two bases near the mountain.

Meanwhile, the construction of the barricades in the town was going underway. The town would need to be highly defendable, since it seemed like the army was going to have to stay there for a while. Water balloon launchers and guns were stock piled for when the next attack by Tempests would occur. People from all over the island were now joining the army, bringing with them supplies and ammo.

One of the men was positioned on the roof of the warehouse. He was watching the Tempests by the caves. He then yelled down to Duxburian, "Dux! You might want to take a look at this!"

Dux went to the roof and looked into the binoculars of the watchman. His eyes lit up. He could see tons of Tempests coming out of the caves. Dux counted over 50 of them. This was not good.

He called down to Nibor who was helping on the barricades, "Nibor! There’s a huge army of 50 or more out there! No way in hell can we stand up to that!" Thinking quickly Nibor got a plan. "Hey Dux! Remember all of those water mines we have?" Dux smiled an evil grin.

Forceuser took Piranha's water balloon launcher and sent him back to the boat, instructing him to bring the rest of the squad and the Behemoth as quickly as possible. Piranha ran off.

Leaving Dux to deal with the water mines, Forceuser was organising the defenders. He was confidant that with the water mines and, when it got there, the Behemoth they could defeat this group of Tempests.

Racer had got word of the Tempest attacks from his friend in 2. He then decided to hop on his motor scooter and take off with his water balloon launcher, XP 75 and CPS 1500 to 6. He went around the mountain to 6 with a radio and tried to get connection to Nibor and Dux.

Racer kept trying to get hold of the militia on the radio but there was nothing. Why weren't they hearing him?

At the warehouse the radio operator was confused. Someone was using one of the channels but he was hearing only static. He held down the talk button, "Hello is anyone there?" There was no reply.

Racer suddenly heard a burst of static from the radio. He wondered what was going on. Then a thought came to him. What if the Tempests were somehow jamming all radio frequencies? Worried about what he had just found out, he decided to go and find the militia.

He carried along the road to 6. As he rounded a corner, he caught sight of a group of Tempests. What he didn't realise was that this was only the edge of the group attacking 6. He swerved off the road and out of sight.

"What am I going to do?" he thought to himself. The he noticed a small path leading off the road. He smiled. He restarted his engine and headed off down the path.

Back at the warehouse, Dux and the militia had just finished laying the water mines. The Tempests were over half way there now. Forceuser took his eyes off the approaching Tempests and felt a sense of impending doom. Just then, he heard Piranha's voice. He turned round. The Behemoth had arrived! They quickly set up it up on the roof of the warehouse, loaded with ten balloons.

Something drew Forceuser's eye to the east. A motor scooter appeared from the forest. Force grabbed the nearest water balloon launcher and raised it to firing height. Something stopped him from firing. That definitely wasn't a Tempest. The scooter pulled up at the bottom of the warehouse. "Hi, I'm Racer." Forceuser jumped down and extended his hand. "Forceuser."

Racer explained to Forceuser what he had found out. Just as Force was thinking about it, Stingray called out. "The Tempests are in range." Everyone started rushing into position.

Spinner stood back and surveyed his work. It was about 15:30 hours, and the sun had done its best to bake him, but he had managed to complete his project to his satisfaction. It was now time to return to the house.

Having got back, he heard his radio buzzing away. He quickly realised that someone was jamming the waves. "I don't like this at all," he told himself. "I hope that someone turns up before the marauding Tempests do, as I won't be able to hold out long against a prolonged attack."

He then checked out his old jeep. Capable of conveying two or three people at high speeds, and a water balloon launcher and water machine gun in the front passenger's seat, it had been an extremely valuable asset in his previous wars.

"I wonder..." he mused, stroking his chin,

Suddenly making a decision, he threw his 1700 and Power Pak in the back, jumped in the driving seat, and plunged down the drive in search of allies.

The militia opened fire on the Tempests with water balloon launchers. However the Behemoth sat silent and all the shots went long. Racer looked at Forceuser. "What's going on? How come everyone missed?" "You'll see," Force replied.

The Tempests returned fire and, seeing the terrible aim of the militia, they charged. Straight into the water mines. Seeing water mines explode all around them, some of them turned and started running backwards. Then another wave of balloons landed behind them. They could retreat but they would be hit by the water balloon launcher fire from the militia.

Then, the Behemoth fired. Its sheer power sent ten balloons flying high in the air before coming thundering down on the Tempests. Several of the Tempests went flying after receiving direct hits. That was enough for them. They turned and ran.

"They’re not safe yet!" Force laughed. The Behemoth was reloaded, but only with five balloons this time giving it more range. It fired again. Through a pair of binoculars, Force saw some more Tempests fall.

Once again the Behemoth was reloaded but this time only with one balloon. The Tempests were getting further away and were nearly past the maximum range. It fired. The last balloon sailed high in the air, buffeted by the wind.

The Tempests, thinking they were safe, had slowed down. The balloon landed right on the commander. The speed of the balloon when it hit him was enormous. Force saw him go flying forward, roll once and then hit the ground unconscious. The attack was over. However, Force did not feel relieved, he knew it was only just beginning.

Spinner rumbled on in the jeep. Just ahead of him was the town of 6. Then he heard noises. Battle noises. "What's going on?" he wondered. "Where are the Tempests?" He didn't have to wait much longer for his answer as three or four soldiers with the distinctive Tempest armband came rushing round the corner. He instantly grabbed his 1700 and ordered: "Halt!"

They skidded to a stop and wearily raised their hands. Spinner grinned. "Time for some information, people."

At the warehouse everyone was refilling and reloading their weapons and repairing any damage that had been done, relieved the assault was over. Forceuser, however, was getting ready to go after the Tempests.

He turned to Duxburian, "I'm going to take my squad and head after the Tempests to the caves. I know a hidden entrance that leads to the main caves through some tunnels. We're going to go in there and see what we can find out. The radios aren't working so as soon as we've found out what we want, I'll send Piranha back."

"What about you and the rest of your squad?" Dux replied. "We'll stay there and find out what we can." "OK. It's risky but we need some info. Good luck!" "Thanks."

Forceuser gathered his squad and they set off at a brisk jog. They all knew how dangerous the mission was but that wasn't stopping them. They even knew that if they were found out then the main priority was to get Piranha out, even at the expense of the rest of them. They put their faith in their skills and, if it came to it, their weapons.

Spinner locked up the Tempest troops in an old shed about a fifth of a mile from 6, it was cold in there, and the Tempest's guns were in a sack next to Spinner.

"I need some info from you," Spinner said. "W-what do you want?" one of the Tempest troops replied. "I want to know why you are only attacking the town of 6, and none of the other towns"

"I-I don't know." "Just tell me!" "There is a special...thing in 6" "What kind of thing? Give me more info," Spinner demanded. "I don’t know!" Spinner fingered his 1700. "So, only the Leader knows what you're looking for?" he asked.

"That's right," replied the Tempest, "We haven't been told anything about it."

"Very well," said Spinner, "If you have tried to pull the wool over my eyes, woe to you. You're staying here for a while."

He left the shed, locked it, and rode off in his jeep, towards the battlefield.

As he came closer, he noticed how quiet it was now. "Strange," he thought, "What's happened now?"

Then he noticed a warehouse with a water howitzer on the roof. He made his way cautiously towards it, parked in a small side street, and started on foot with his 1700.

As Forceuser and his squad approached the caves, they slowed down and moved cautiously. They moved to the edge of the mountain and Force pushed part of a bush aside. Behind it was a two foot by three foot hole. "That's what we're going down?" Sophie whispered. "Yep," Force replied.

Racer took off by foot over to where Forceuser was. "Wait Forceuser!" he yelled. Force looked at him. "Racer?" he thought, "Why is he here?"

Racer went over to them and gave Force a letter from the Tempest. "Here is a message I found while scouting around."

The letter read:

Dear Commander Sid,

We would like to request permission to lay water bombs in the caves to prevent people from getting that secret hidden pressure booster in the tunnel in 6.

-Tim, Tempest Captain

"Ah, yes, a pressure booster, I made one once," Racer said. "What does it do?" Forceuser inquired. "You plug it in to the CPS line's hole in the side of the pressure chamber." "Go on." "It allows you to fully pump the gun with the hold of a button and one pump." "Wow, so that's what they're after," said Forceuser.

"You better be careful in there Force, there could be bombs," Racer said, worried. "OK" "Hey, I have both my 75 and my 1500, can I come with you?" "Alright, fine Racer, you can come."
